Inkfish is an online journal of poetry, fiction (including flash), creative nonfiction, and visual art, based in the UK. They publish both emerging and established authors from around the world.

Inkfish likes emotionally resonant stories with a strong voice and engaging characters. For poetry, they publish a broad range of styles, including experimental forms. In general, they like writing that takes the reader, “somewhere unexpected.”

Inkfish has been published online since spring of 2024, and so far they’ve produced three issues, each with writing from around 30 contributors. They have also published interviews and reviews. Inkfish Magazine is associated with Inkfish Press, which publishes chapbooks and anthologies of poetry and fiction (including flash).

Now through May 15, Inkfish is accepting submissions for their spring 2025 edition, themed, “Nature & Eco-Writing”.

Authors of fiction and creative nonfiction may submit pieces up to 6,000 words. That said, they especially like to publish flashes between 200 and 1,000 words.

Poets may submit up to five poems. They accept all forms of poetry, but they especially like, “poetry that takes risks.” This includes prose poetry, erasure, vispo, and concrete poetry, as well as experimental and hybrid writing.

Submitting authors can expect a response within three to six months. Inkfish nominates authors published in the journal for The Pushcart Prize and Best of the Net.

Inkfish accepts submissions online, not via email or by post. They accept simultaneous submissions but ask that authors withdraw writing published elsewhere. They do not accept previously published work.
