Sontag Mag: Now Seeking Poetry Submissions

Sontag Mag is an online journal of poetry and poetry in translation. They are, “devoted to fostering a community of poets and translators and promoting works exceptional in craft.” You can read the journal online to get a sense of what they publish.

Sontag Mag was established in 2023. They publish three issues each year, and their latest issue, Spring 2025, includes one interview, fourteen poems, and three poems in translation. The journal is thoughtfully designed and easy to navigate, with compelling images accompanying the poems. They also keep an archive of all writing previously published in Sontag Mag.

Sontag Mag accepts submissions three times a year, from January to March, May to July, and September to November. Their current submission period closes at the end of the day on July 31st. Poets may submit up to three poems, up to twice per submission period. Translators should include the original poem along with the translation, and translators must have permission from the original author before submitting. Submitting poets and translators can expect a response within three months.

Sontag Mag accepts submissions via email, not online or by post. They do not accept previously published poems, and they do not accept pitches for interviews or craft essays.

They do not accept translations of poems that have appeared elsewhere in English, either online or in print. They also do not accept poems or translations that have been assisted or created by AI.

Sontag Mag only accepts submissions that follow the guidelines they’ve posted online. Please read these guidelines in full before submitting.
